Artist Statement

My work is a quest to find what I call "the visual ticklish spot", the place where color, light and a certain weightlessness come together and expand our vision beyond the surface of everyday encounters.

Artist Bio

Sheree Wood is a contemporary abstract painter working from her studios in Milwaukee, WI and Tucson, AZ. Her art explores the ways that light and color affect the psyche in the belief that the visual can influence our mood, as do dance and music.

Raised in Wisconsin, Wood has also lived in Spain, Portugal and Venezuela. She holds a BS in Education and MA in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has studied art history at La Universidad Complutense in Madrid. This background in language, literature, and art informs the way that she sees and interprets the visual world.

In addition to art making, Wood enjoys writing about the stories that emerge alongside her paintings. Her first book, Pandemic Pages, is a whimsically illustrated diary of life during the global lockdown.
